Piano Forte Chicago Inc - Fazioli Pianos

Sitting in my small, grey bank cubicle four years ago, I never dreamed I would run, what I now consider, the best specialized piano shop in Chicago.  I was an idealist with a passion for pianos who had the crazy idea of wanting to show the world around me the amazing Fazioli pianos.  Of course, it could never be that simple.  This adventure has led me to discover other beautiful pianos, to meeting the interesting, passionate and sometimes famous people who love pianos and to producing over 60 concerts a year, two radio programs and a music festival.  I can tell you I never worked this hard and I never had this much fun either.

Like any independent up against the superstores of this world, it is our selection and service that set us apart. When you are dealing with fine musical instruments, it isn’t always only the price that matters, although we will offer as a good a deal as any, but the fact that you are dealing with someone who cares about your instrument and about your enjoyment of it.   When we look for instruments for our relatively small showroom, we seek out the hard to find, the particularly good deal, the exquisite sound, the even touch, the responsive action.  Then we spend hours making sure they are presented in the best possible condition to facilitate your judgement and choice. In our studios, located on the 4th, 6th and 8th floors of the historic Fine Arts Building, you will find showcased our carefully selected inventory of pianos, including:  Fazioli, Schimmel, Grotrian, Wendl & Lung, Steinway, Mason & Hamlin, Bechstein, and Baldwin.

I welcome you to explore our website, and look forward even more to your visit in our showrooms.

Sincerely,

Thomas Zoells
President

About Fazioli

Fazioli Pianoforti was begun by pianist/engineer Paolo Fazioli in 1981. Mr. Fazioli, a passionate perfectionist, set out to build the best piano possible, a brave proposition considering the large manufacturers with whom he was competing. That first year 3 pianos were produced by Fazioli. Since 1981 production has slowly increased and Mr. Fazioli has continued to improve his pianos. Today just about 100 pianos are produced by hand each year, with just over 1,300 pianos having been made since inception. Though obviously a rare commodity, their reputation grows as more professional artists look to Fazioli as the piano of choice and publications and books attest to the Fazioli piano’s superior quality. In April 2005, Paolo Fazioli went a step further in building a state-of-the-art concert hall within the factory. This will allow customers to test and choose pianos in a concert hall environment, as well as for Fazioli to make more high-quality recordings and to organize a concert series which will attract some of the world’s top talent. For information about the concert hall, please visit www.fazioliconcerthall.com.

Manufacturing:

If the soundboard is the heart of the piano, Fazioli pianos have a heart of gold. Produced in Northern Italy, Fazioli uses red spruce trees from the Italian Alps to make his pianos. This wood is known for its evenness, lightness and flexible strength. It is no coincidence that Antonio Stradivarius used this wood to build his legendary string instruments.

Though grounded by the long tradition of the pianoforte, one look at the Fazioli factory will tell you that Fazioli’s feet are firmly in the 21st century. Yet technology and modernization here are the slaves of quality not increased production capacity.
